Killeshandra in County Cavan has a rich heritage and is dominated by a system of lakes known as the Lough Oughter system. Dating back millions of years to the Ice Age, the area is recognised by UNESCO as part of the Marble Arch Caves global geopark. In the nearby Killykeen Forest Park, there are signs of habitation going back at least 5,000 years. The area has survived civil wars and famine and today boasts a thriving local community who are proud of their intriguing heritage.
